Why the “theatre of the mind” is a great place to stage your corporate communication.

In the early days of radio broadcasting the term “theatre of the mind” was coined because of the way that radio relies on the listener to use their imagination to complete the picture painted by the program. Radio is intimate and engaging. There are no pictures to distract from the ideas and sounds pouring into one’s ears. Before there was a TV in every household the radio (or wireless as it was known for the first 60 years) held sway over the family and was the information and entertainment portal for three generations. Radio was, and is, a much loved medium. You can do things on radio that you can’t do in any other medium. Radio is immediate and live. Radio connects the content to the listener directly, straight into their brain.

As good as radio is, Podcasting is better.

Podcasting does everything that radio does for content but allows for local, regional or instant international distribution to vast or specific audiences. Podcasting sounds like radio but transgresses borders and the physical constraints of radio reception. Podcasting content is portable and flexible. A Podcast can be reviewed and replayed instantly, making ideal for training and education. A Podcast can sound as good as (if not better than) any Radio City production and any type of format can be used: music, interviews, editorial, news, and education. Audience size is directly and immediately measurable and you have complete control over the message.

Podcasting is “The NEW theatre of the mind”. Podcasting is the future of corporate communication.
